 this black forest cake recipe combines soft, moist chocolate sponge cake layers with homemade whipped cream frosting and a sweet sour cherry🍒




Ingredients:


  • ‌1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ‌1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • ‌1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ‌1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ‌1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ‌1 teaspoon salt
  • ‌2 large eggs
  • ‌1 cup buttermilk
  • ‌1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • ‌2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ‌1 cup hot brewed coffee
  • ‌1/4 cup cherry brandy
  • ‌2 cups whipped cream
  • ‌1 can cherry pie filling


Directions:


  • ‌Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • ‌In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir to combine.
  • ‌Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until well combined.
  • ‌Stir in hot coffee and cherry brandy until well combined.
  • ‌Divide batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  • ‌Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • ‌Cool cakes completely on wire racks.
  • ‌Spread whipped cream and cherry pie filling between the layers and on top of the cake.
