Ingredients:


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • ½ cup vegetable oil

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • Chocolate frosting

  • Sprinkles or other decorations (optional)


Instructions:


  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. 

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix well until everything is combined.

  • Slowly stir in the boiling water, a little at a time, until the batter is smooth and well-mixed.

  • Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  • Once the cakes are completely cool, place one of the cakes onto a serving plate or cake stand. Spread a layer of chocolate frosting over the top of the cake. Then, place the second cake on top of the frosting and spread another layer of frosting over the top of the cake.

  • Decorate with sprinkles or other decorations, if desired.

  • Chill the cake in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the frosting to set.
